Guard of honour at Pc's funeral

Hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their final respects to a policeman killed in the line of duty.

Fellow officers, civilian colleagues and members of the public joined the family and friends of Bedfordshire Pc Jonathan Henry, 36, for a funeral service at the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church in Luton.

Pc Henry was stabbed on June 11 as he struggled with an armed attacker in Luton town centre, less than two miles from the church where his funeral was held.

Led by Pc Henry's widow, Mary, on the couple's second wedding anniversary, mourners packed into the modern church in which they were married, to hear a service taken by Monsignor Kevin McGinnell.

Pc Henry's coffin was received into the church with full police honours on Sunday night, where his baby daughter, Maggie, who turned one last Thursday, was taken to say goodbye to her father. The little girl did not attend Monday's service.

Representatives from all 43 UK forces were also in attendance, along with a number of local dignitaries.

The officer's wife entered the church alongside the priest, followed by Pc Henry's mother, Dina, father, Alex, and his brothers and sisters.

Nineteen police officers, in full uniform, formed a guard of honour for the family as they entered the church.

He had been on duty for just 30 minutes when he was called to a report that two window cleaners had been stabbed as they worked in George Street at around 7.15am.

The officer, who had been with the Bedfordshire force for three years, was fatally injured as he moved in to try to arrest a suspect.
