Harry's tribute to 'best mother'
31 January 2007
At the memorial service held in her honour, Harry delivered a touching address which he had written himself.
He said of Diana: "She was our guardian, friend and protector."
He asked for her to be remembered as she was: "fun-loving, generous, down to earth and entirely genuine".
In front of a congregation of 500 and a mass worldwide television audience, Harry shared his personal thoughts about his much-loved mother.
Harry, who is now 22, was just 12 when Diana was killed in a tragic car crash.
On the day of her funeral, he and Prince William walked bravely behind her coffin to Westminster Abbey in front of crowds of grieving mourners.
William, who was 15 when the Princess died, also gave a reading, from St Paul's letter to the Ephesians.
Exactly a decade to the day that Diana, Princess of Wales, was killed in a tragic car crash, the royal brothers held their special church service at the Guards' Chapel in London as a thanksgiving for the Princess' life.
The hour-long service, which began at midday, was conducted by the Rev Patrick Irwin, Chaplain to the Household Division. Two prayers were written for the occasion by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, at the request of William and Harry.
