Hostages' families mark anniversary

The families of five British men being held hostage in Iraq are set to mark the second anniversary of their abduction.

The men, who were working as civilian contractors, were kidnapped by armed militants at the Iraqi Ministry of Finance in Baghdad on May 29 2007.

One of the captives has been named as IT consultant Peter Moore, from Lincoln.

He was working for BearingPoint, a US management consultancy. The other four men were employed by Canadian security firm GardaWorld to guard Mr Moore.

Two of them, Alan and Jason, are from Scotland while the other two, Alec and a second man called Jason, are from Wales.

Their families spoke of their continuing hopes that the men will be released ahead of the anniversary.

A moving letter from Maddi, the seven-year-old daughter of one of the Jasons, to her missing father was circulated on Thursday.

She wrote: "When you come back I will give you the biggest huge hug. We will never give up until you come home. I love you and miss you so much."

Over the past two years the kidnappers, calling themselves the Islamic Shiite Resistance in Iraq, have issued several videos featuring the captives and have made demands.

In February last year a video broadcast by Dubai-based TV station Al-Arabiya showed a bearded and tired-looking Mr Moore asking Prime Minister Gordon Brown to free nine Iraqis in exchange for the British hostages.
