'House of horror' search resumes

Police are resuming their search of a "house of horror" that hid the bodies of two missing teenage girls.

It comes after post-mortem tests revealed that a second body found is likely to be that of missing Essex teenager Dinah McNicol.

Miss McNicol, of Tillingham, was 18 when she vanished in 1991. That is the same year Scottish schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton, 15, went missing. Her remains were found buried at the house in Margate, Kent, on Monday.

Peter Lowton, Assistant Chief Constable of Essex Police, said: "Based on both the height of the body and the clothing with the body, we believe this latest find is Dinah."

Mr Lowton said there was "more work to be done" at the Margate house and added the second body was found in the back garden, close to the patio.

"The hole that was dug would encompass part of the patio," he said.

He said the police force was now concentrating on gathering evidence as part of the inquiry into the death of Miss McNicol.

When asked if the force was close to making any arrests over Miss McNicol's murder, he said: "It is too early to tell."

Miss McNicol's father, Ian, 68, said he was "elated and confused" over the news, adding: "I can now die in peace if it is Dinah." He told Sky News: "We want an end to it and we want to know Dinah is dead."

Mr Lowton refused to be drawn on whether there could be any more bodies at the address and would not say what had led detectives there.
