Huntley in new sex assault probe

Soham child killer Ian Huntley will be re-investigated over the molestation of a schoolgirl, police have confirmed.

Hailey Giblin, 21, was sexually assaulted by Huntley when she was 11, but he was not prosecuted and went on to kill Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

The attack on Ms Giblin took place in 1997 - five years before Huntley murdered the 10-year-olds in Soham, Cambridgeshire.

She reported the attack to Humberside Police in 1998 and 2005 but the Crown Prosecution Service ruled there was not sufficient evidence for a prosecution.

Ms Giblin, from Barton-upon-Humber, north Lincolnshire, brought a civil case against Huntley, who initially denied the attack in Cleethorpes in 1997.

He reversed his plea from his prison cell and a hearing at Manchester County Court was formally told of Huntley's confession last month.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "As a result of the outcome of the civil proceedings which were brought by Hailey Giblin against Ian Huntley in respect of the incidents in September 1997, it is now appropriate that we re-consider the evidence in this matter in the light of Mr Huntley's consent to judgment being entered against him."

Ms Giblin has waived her right to anonymity.
