Husband guilty over Nisha murder

The cheating husband of special constable Nisha Patel-Nasri is facing a life sentence after being convicted of organising her murder.

Fadi Nasri, 34, had his wife stabbed to pay for a luxury lifestyle with his glamorous eastern European mistress using a £350,000 life insurance policy.

The death of the hard-working part-time policewoman, who was 29, was described as a "tragedy" by Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair.

She bled to death on her driveway after being stabbed with her own 13-inch kitchen knife by violent and powerfully-built bouncer Jason Jones.

Drug dealer Rodger Leslie arranged the murder at the behest of Nasri, who wanted her dead to pay off spiralling debts of more than £100,000 and supplied a set of house keys so her killer could let himself in. The Lebanese-born limousine hire boss was secretly leading a double life with Lithuanian prostitute Laura Mockiene.

He was "spending money like water" on his mistress, in her 20s, meeting her for weekly sex sessions in hotels and even taking her on a secret holiday to see the Egyptian pyramids.

Nasri drove a Lexus and wore a stolen £10,000 Swiss Hublot watch, but beneath his swagger his business was in trouble. He could not afford his lifestyle, and decided to kill his wife for a big insurance payout, in what police described as "the final betrayal".

She maintained a "bubbly" facade while working day and night up to seven days a week at her salon, but still finding time to volunteer as a special constable. But her cheery demeanour masked a secret sadness. She was desperate for a baby and sick of being stuck at home while her husband went out, confiding in one friend that she wanted a divorce.

The victim's brother Katen Patel described the murder as a "brutal, savage and vicious attack". He accused his brother-in-law of shedding crocodile tears as he stood facing a murder charge in the dock. Mr Patel added: "It is not a man but a coward who attacks a vulnerable woman with a knife. Nisha never stood a chance, she was alone and defenceless."

Nasri, 34, of Alderman Court, Barnet, north London, Leslie, 38, of Chesterfield Flats, Bells Hill, Barnet, and Jones, 36, of Hathaway Crescent, Manor Park, east London, were all found guilty of murder by majority verdicts of 10-2. They were remanded in custody to be sentenced on June 20. Driver Tony Emmanuel, 42, of Clements Road, East Ham, east London, was cleared by the Old Bailey jury following the three-month trial.
