Immigration detainee recaptured

Police have recaptured an immigration detainee who was one of four to go missing in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Libyan man, who has served time in prison for minor assault and theft, was found in Oxford's Botanical Gardens this afternoon.

Three other detainees remain at large after the "planned escape" from Campsfield House in Oxfordshire.

Police were unable to confirm reports that the man was eating tomatoes at the time of his capture.

Officers are still combing the area for the three other men.

Two of the remaining escapees are Palestinian and one is from Afghanistan. They were all being held at the centre as illegal immigrants.

Seven detainees were found to be missing from the Campsfield detention centre in Oxfordshire early on Thursday. Three of the men were later recaptured.

Two have been returned to the centre and a third, who injured his ankles during the escape, is being treated in hospital.

Senior police officers will meet border control agencies and staff from the company that runs the site, GEO, to discuss the incident.

Inspector Graham Sutherland of Thames Valley Police said police and GEO knew how the men had escaped but could not release details. He said: "What I would say is that this wasn't a simple walk out. It was more planned and complicated than that. This was a planned escape."
