Inquiry after body found near car

The body of a 40-year-old man has been found lying near his car on a dual carriageway, police said.

The body was found close to a Volkswagen Sharan on the A38 southbound carriageway, just south of the Branston junction in Staffordshire at about 8.30pm on Saturday evening.

The A38 southbound was closed for seven and a half hours while police carried out a full scene investigation.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "At this time it is unclear how this tragic incident has occurred."

The man's identity will not be released until all his family has been informed, he added.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
