Inspectors assess UK Games progress
20 January 2008
A trip to the Olympic Park, being built in east London, and to Wembley stadium, which will host the football finals, are due to take place.
A series of meetings and presentations is also scheduled for the International Olympic Committee's 18-strong co-ordination commission over the next three days.
Besides updates from London 2012 chairman Lord (Sebastian) Coe and Olympic Delivery Authority chairman John Armitt, the commission will meet the Olympics minister Tessa Jowell and the new Culture Secretary Andy Burnham.
They are also due to meet London's new Mayor Boris Johnson.
Despite the media spotlight being shone over budget issues, London organisers will be hoping to be bolstered by praise similar to the last inspection 11 months ago.
Organisers are expected to say that preparations are on track.
Construction of the 2012 Aquatics Centre should start this summer. Lord Coe described it as "a significant milestone" when planning permission for the venue was granted this month.
Work is also ongoing to deliver a new electrical infrastructure beneath the Olympic Park.
This will be the commission's third visit to London since it was awarded the right to host the Games in July 2005.
