Jenkins to sing at FA Cup final

Opera star Katherine Jenkins will be the first person to sing the Welsh national anthem at Wembley when she performs ahead of the FA Cup final.

The Neath-born soprano will sing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau before Cardiff City face Portsmouth in the match on May 17.

She was originally asked to accompany Lesley Garrett in a performance of God Save The Queen, but permission has now been granted for her to sing the Welsh anthem.

Jenkins said she would be supporting the Welsh team in their first FA Cup final since 1927.

She said: "It's a fantastic honour for me to sing our national anthem anywhere in the world, but to sing at an FA Cup final at Wembley is going to be something really special.

"Who will I support? Who will all right-minded and passionate Welsh sports fans across our country support that day?"

Land Of My Fathers, the English-language version of the anthem, was performed at Cardiff City's last FA Cup final, which they won.
