Kercher accused's father in tears
08 January 2009
William "Curt" Knox broke down in tears after a hearing in which the court was told how relations between his daughter and Miss Kercher cooled before the Leeds University student's death.
But Mr Knox said "confusion" in some of the evidence gave him hope that the jury would recognise his daughter's innocence.
His comments came after a police officer's version of events was repeatedly contradicted in court by other witnesses.
Miss Kercher's body was found on November 2, 2007, in her room in the house she shared in Perugia, Italy, on her year abroad.
Michele Battistelli, one of the first officers on the scene, insisted for the second day running that he did not enter Miss Kercher's bedroom when the murder came to light.
But two witnesses said that he did.
Mr Knox said: "It sounded like there were a number of entrances into the house that weren't documented, which creates that much more of a possibility of contamination.
"I think things are beginning to point more to Amanda's innocence - and that's going to be proven."
American Knox, 21, is on trial in Perugia alongside her former Italian lover, Raffaele Sollecito, 24, for the brutal murder of her housemate Miss Kercher.
