The 28-year-old attended Wilmslow police station for talks with officers after she was filmed snorting the Class A drug by a Sunday newspaper.
The caution followed Katona's public apology for her drug use through a national newspaper.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "Following a police investigation, today at Wilmslow police station a 28-year old woman has been cautioned by police for possession of a controlled drug."
The caution marks a new low for the former winner of ITV's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!.
The mother of four was filmed snorting cocaine through a £20 note in the bathroom of her detached home in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
Following publication of the details in the News of the World, she fled with husband Mark Croft, 39, and her family to Tenerife. Publication of the picture of Katona taking the drug led to the Iceland stores chain dropping her as the face of the company.
The loss of the lucrative advertising contract came as a blow to her, she said, after she was made bankrupt last year and has been left with huge debts.
Katona told the Sunday Mirror she was "ashamed" of her actions. "I know I let everyone down - my fans, my family and people I work with," she was reported as saying. "It was a moment of weakness and stupidity and I regret it terribly."
The former Atomic Kitten singer has endured a long and public battle with alcohol and drugs as well as a rollercoaster romantic life. She married Westlife singer Brian McFadden in 2002 and had two children. But the couple split two years later with McFadden now engaged to Australian singer Delta Goodrem.
