Angela Gordon and her partner Junaid Abuhamza, who are both accused of "causing or allowing" the death of Khyra Ishaq, will make a joint appearance at Birmingham Crown Court.

Gordon, 33, and Abuhamza, 29, were both charged with the offence, brought under the 2004 Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act, earlier this month.

They are formally accused of committing the offence between May 9 and the date of Khyra's death, May 17.

It is not expected that the defendants will be required to enter a plea at the hearing before the Recorder of Birmingham, Judge Frank Chapman.

Gordon and Abuhamza were remanded in custody when they appeared before magistrates in the city two days after Khyra's death and will both appear before Judge Chapman by videolink.

Khyra was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital from her mother's home in Leyton Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, in the early hours of May 17.

A case review has been launched into the circumstances of the death.
