Langham loses sentence cut bid

An appeal by actor Chris Langham to have his jail sentence cut has been rejected, a Court of Appeal official has said.

The 58-year-old Bafta award-winner was jailed for 10 months at Maidstone Crown Court last month after being found guilty of 15 counts of downloading child pornography.

Langham denied the charges and claimed he viewed the images because he was researching a paedophile character for a television drama he was writing.

He said he was also trying to make sense of sexual abuse he suffered as a child.

The jury cleared him of having sex with an under-age girl.

A Court of Appeal spokesman said: "The case was refused by a single judge on Friday.

"He has an option to renew his application. At this point in time he hasn't."

Langham is due to be released early in the new year.

The father of five, from Golford, near Cranbrook, Kent, is well known for his starring role in the television drama The Thick Of It.
