Life of luxury for 'only resident'

An 83-year-old woman is enjoying a life of luxury in a popular holiday resort after moving into a block of 30 new flats where she is the only permanent resident.

All 29 other properties at the multi-million pound development at Mount Wise in Newquay, Cornwall, are used as holiday homes; so for most of the year pensioner Mavis Ward enjoys her own gym, swimming pool and underground car park.

There are also a team of maintenance workers for the building, which overlooks the town and Cornish coast.

Mrs Ward said weeks can go by without her seeing another resident and even when people do visit it is only for a couple of days.

"I am the lady of the manor," she said. "I have my gym with swimming pool, treadmill, rowing machine, exercise bike and sauna.

"There is also a roof top garden - but I never use it because it is windy up there.

"It is peaceful and quiet here and the view is fabulous.

"Sometimes I don't see people for weeks. I have the whole place to myself."
