Pan Am Flight 103 from Heathrow to New York exploded in the skies above the town just after 7pm on December 21 1988.

All 259 people on board were killed, while 11 died on the ground below.

On Sunday, memorial events will take place in Scotland, England and the US to remember those who lost their lives.

In Lockerbie itself, local people feel it is important to mark the anniversary, but want the events to be low key.

There will be a commemorative wreath laying at 2pm in Dryfesdale Cemetery, Lockerbie, where the garden of remembrance is situated.

Later, at 6.30pm, there will be an ecumenical church service at Dryfesdale Church.

An evening vigil will take place at Tundergarth Church in the nearby village of Tundergarth, where the nose section of the plane crashed down.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to reflect at various "places to remember" which will be open throughout Sunday. These include Dryfesdale Lodge Visitors' Centre, Lockerbie Town Hall and Tundergarth Church.

Some British relatives will attend a service at a Heathrow Airport chapel on Sunday evening.
