London cabs voted best in the world

20 January 2008
Cabs in the UK capital are the favourite with 44% of the 3,300 travellers surveyed by Hotels.com.
This put London comfortably ahead of second-placed New York in the best-taxi table.
Travellers also consider London taxis to be the cheapest, cleanest, best-driven, safest and most available, while the capital's cabbies are the friendliest, the best drivers and the best for route knowledge.
Edinburgh came eighth in the table of best cities for taxis, and scored well in some other categories.
Manchester was fifth in the clean-taxi list, while Dublin had the third-friendliest cabbies.
Santiago in Chile came bottom of the best-taxi list and there was also little support for cabs in Shanghai, Cape Town, Moscow and Rio de Janeiro.
More than three in five of those polled said they prefer taking a cab to using public transport when arriving in a city.
Bob Oddy, general secretary of the London Taxi Drivers Association, said: "Our members are trained to the highest standards and dedicated to driving as a full-time profession, and therefore their skill, knowledge and expertise is second to none.
"It is this great service that shapes travellers first experience in the UK and we are very proud of that."
