The suspect, 19, was taken into custody in the Bellaghy area of Co Londonderry just before 7am on Thursday.

Sappers Mark Quinsey, 23, of Birmingham, and Patrick Azimkar, 21, of London, were shot dead at the gates of Massereene Barracks in Antrim on Saturday March 7 while they collected pizzas from delivery men.

Two soldiers and two civilian pizza delivery men were seriously injured in the attack.

Prominent republican Colin Duffy was last week charged with the two murders and five attempted murders - of the two delivery men, the two injured soldiers and another soldier- and possession of arms and ammunition with intent.

The 19-year-old has been taken to a police interrogation centre in Antrim for questioning.

Two days after the soldier were killed, a policeman, Pc Stephen Carroll, 48, was shot dead in Craigavon. Three people have been charged in connection with that killing.

A 17-year-old youth and a former Sinn Fein councillor Brendan McConville, 37, have been charged with Pc Carroll's murder. McConville, from Glenholme Avenue, Lurgan, and the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were remanded in custody last week.

A 21-year-old man, who also cannot be named, has been charged with withholding information about the killing of the officer.

Duffy, 41, from Lurgan, was one of six people questioned about the three security force murders who successfully won a legal challenge against their lengthy detention without charge last week. While five were allowed to go free from police custody, Duffy was immediately rearrested and, a day later, was charged with the murder of the soldiers.
