Lewis Stephen Gray, of Wingfield Road, Hull, will appear at Hull Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning accused of murdering Joe Dinsdale.
Joe, 17, was found on Bilton Grove, east Hull, with a serious stomach wound on Monday night and died later in hospital.
Joe was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary following the stabbing but died from his injuries.
Bouquets of flowers and balloons remained tied to the fence near the scene of the alleged attack.
Friends gathered at Bilton Grove to read the tributes left to him and rugby scarves were left draped around the flowers.
On Tuesday, family members visited the scene where he was stabbed.
His father, Andy Dinsdale, hugged and consoled other family members as they read the tributes left by Joe's friends.
One message on a bouquet read: "To my precious friend Joe. You will be so sadly missed. I miss you so much already. All my love Gemma."
Joe was due to celebrate his 18th birthday in a couple of weeks. He was described as a big fan of Hull Kingston Rovers rugby league team.
