Man held after girl killed in crash

Police have arrested a man in connection with a crash that killed a four-year-old girl.

Olivia Donachie was struck by a Jeep Cherokee on Wednesday as she and her mother, Rachel, walked along an Edinburgh street.

The girl died at the scene, which was just outside her home in Redford Drive, while Mrs Donachie was left critically injured.

Lothian and Borders Police said a 31-year-old man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

Mrs Donachie, 33, was taken for surgery to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after the crash.

Her husband, Paul, has been at her bedside, where he broke the news of their daughter's death.

A 28-year-old man detained in Redford Drive after the crash by members of the public was later released by police pending further inquiries.

Officers investigating the incident have been appealing for witnesses to come forward and have received scores of calls from the public.
