The suspect was arrested after a police pursuit which ended with a gunman forcing his way into a house in Salford, Greater Manchester.
The occupants were unharmed and the man was arrested after armed police were called in.
The incident began when a stolen Skoda Octavia was spotted in Monton, Salford, at around 8.30pm on Thursday and a police patrol began to follow it.
One of the passengers shot at their car with what is believed to be a shotgun.
No one was injured as a result, but the car sped off, a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said.
The stolen Skoda was tracked by the force helicopter before being abandoned by its driver and three passengers.
One of them ran off towards the Ordsall area of Salford where he forced his way into an address on Lasgar Avenue. The occupants of the address left the house and were looked after by police.
Officers from GMP's firearms unit sealed off the area around the house and went in to bring the man out.
A 26-year-old man from Ordsall was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody for questioning. A shotgun was recovered.
