Man held over British woman's death

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a British woman in southern Spain, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said.

The body of 42-year-old Deborah Hatto was reportedly found stabbed at her home on the Costa del Sol in Coin, near Malaga, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Reports from Spain say Ms Hatto's 59-year-old German partner was arrested at the house by the Civil Guard and is to appear before an investigating judge.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said the next of kin have been informed of the death of Ms Hatto, who is believed to be from West Sussex.

He said: "There was an incident and a male suspect has been arrested in connection with it.

"Consular officials are providing assistance and are in contact with the Spanish authorities and Sussex Police."
