Man held over Briton's Kenya death

A man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of Scottish-born mining expert Campbell Bridges in Kenya.

The suspect is the chairman of a small mining association and is accused of masterminding the attack.

He was arrested in Taveta, some 225 miles from the capital, Nairobi.

A group armed with arrows, spears and machetes killed 72-year-old Mr Bridges last week in an apparent dispute over mining rights in south-east Kenya.

In the 1960s, Mr Bridges discovered a rare green variety of garnet initially in modern-day Zimbabwe and later in Kenya's neighbour Tanzania.

Today the green gemstone, mined chiefly in Tanzania and Kenya, is named tsavorite after the Tsavo national parks.
