Man held over nursing home death

A woman carer has died in hospital after being stabbed at the nursing home where she worked, police said.

Officers were called to the home in Princes Street, Dunstable, Bedfordshire, just before 2pm to reports that a woman had been stabbed.

She was taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital but died of her injuries.

A 54-year-old male resident of the home has been arrested on suspicion of murder, a police spokeswoman said.

A police investigation called Operation Ellendale has been set up under Detective Chief Inspector Sean O'Neil.

The spokeswoman added: "Details will not be released relating to the identity of the victim or the cause of death until a post mortem examination and a formal identity of the victim have been completed.

"Police officers, detectives and scenes of crime officers are still at the scene."
