Man hurt in attack by axe gang

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after a masked gang burst through the door of his hotel room and attacked him with axes.

The 20-year-old was in his room at the Ibis hotel on Garstang Road in Preston, Lancashire when three men wearing balaclavas forced their way in at around 1.30 am on Saturday.

They set about the victim with the axes, causing several injuries including deep lacerations to his arms.

He was taken to a local hospital for surgery, Lancashire Police said. His condition is serious but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The motive for the attack is unknown and police are appealing for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.
