Man in court over takeaway stabbing

A 21-year-old man has appeared in court accused of stabbing to death a 16-year-old boy after a row outside a takeaway.

Andrew Holland was stabbed in the neck in Farnworth, near Bolton, Greater Manchester on Friday night.

Iranian national Mahmud Maksoudian, of Madams Wood Road, Little Hulton, Manchester, appeared before Bolton magistrates charged with his murder.

The garage worker, who has lived in the UK since 2000, also faced one charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police found the youngster, of Trentham Gardens, Farnworth, collapsed and bleeding in the street in Plodder Lane.

He was taken to Rochdale General Infirmary where he died.

A post mortem examination showed he died from a single stab wound.

Another 16-year-old boy who was stabbed in the same dispute remains in a serious condition at Rochdale General Infirmary.

An application for bail for Maksoudian was refused by magistrates.

He was remanded in custody to November 2 when a plea and case management hearing will take place at Manchester Crown Court.
