Man killed in M-way lorry crash

A man was killed when he was struck by a lorry as he ran across a motorway near a service station.

The incident, which happened on the northbound M6 close to Corley, Warwickshire, shortly after 9pm on Sunday, led to a further 18 people being treated for minor injuries and shock.

A police spokesman said the lorry and six other vehicles which were also travelling along the northbound carriageway were involved in a further crash immediately after the man was hit.

"It is believed that the man who died had run from a vehicle on the hard shoulder and police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling along the M6, either northbound or southbound, who may have witnessed the incident," the spokesman added.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics arrived to find a number of people who had suffered minor injuries and who were in shock.

"Eighteen people in total, including some children, were taken by West Midlands Ambulance Service staff to a temporary triage centre at Corley Services. They were treated for shock and minor injuries."

The northbound carriageway of the M6 was closed between junction 3 near Coventry and junction 4 at Corley to allow police investigators to examine the scene.
