Graham Cox, 56, was arrested hours after the bodies of his wife, Helen Cox, 40 and Thomas McLoughlin, 59, were found stabbed to death around 12.30pm on Tuesday at a house in Central Drive, Blackpool, Lancs.
Cox, who is originally from Tipton in the West Midlands, where he has family, was arrested in Wolverhampton hours after the bodies were discovered.
It is understood he moved to Blackpool about 12 weeks ago. Mr McLoughlin is originally from the Republic of Ireland.
Cox, wearing a navy blue prison boiler-suit, spoke only to confirm his name and current address at Pleasant Street in Blackpool, during his brief appearance at the town's Magistrates' Court.
No pleas were entered and no application was made for bail by his solicitor Martin Hillson.
Magistrates remanded Cox in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on January 8.
