Man remanded over teacher's murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a female prison literacy teacher whose body was found in the car park of the jail.

Keith Prest, 48, was arrested on suspicion of murdering Louise Evans on September 14 after she was found in the grounds of East Sutton Park open prison in Kent.

Unemployed Prest, of no fixed address, spoke only to confirm his personal details before he was remanded in custody during a brief appearance at Sittingbourne Magistrates' Court.

Miss Evans, 48, a single mother-of-two from Hothfield, near Ashford, was stabbed as she left work at the open prison for adult and young women offenders on September 12.

Miss Evans's two daughters, aged 24 and 27, described their mother as "our friend and a loving sister".

Prest will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on October 12.
