Man shot four times in city street

A man who was killed on a city street was shot four times, police said.

Daniel Keatinge, 25, died in a hail of bullets as he walked from his car to the home of a friend in north Liverpool. A lone gunman targeted Keatinge before running away on foot.

The shooting took place on Formosa Road, Fazakerley, at around 7.30pm on Friday.

Keatinge, of Higher Lane, Fazakerley, was known to police because he was jailed for eight years for a shooting at a nightclub in Liverpool city centre. He had targeted a doorman but missed and struck two of the venue's customers, leaving them with minor injuries.

Keatinge admitted wounding, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and dangerous driving at Liverpool Crown Court in August 2003.

Merseyside Police said they believe Keatinge was targeted although they have yet to establish a motive.

Detectives say the shooting is not being treated as a gang-related incident.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector David Brunskill, said: "A post mortem found that Daniel sustained four bullet wounds.

"There is nothing to say that his history has anything to do with this incident but we are keeping an open mind.

"I can say there is no evidence to suggest this is gang related."
