Mandelson hails NHS after operation

Lord Mandelson, who is also the First Secretary of State, underwent surgery for an enlarged prostate gland on Friday and remained in hospital overnight.
As he left St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, west London, he thanked staff who treated him and said: "I have been treated really well in the hospital. Everything is now flowing extremely well. Actually I have had a jolly time. I am very proud to be an NHS patient."
Enlarged prostate is a common condition among ageing men, with the NHS estimating that 60% of men aged 60 or over have some degree of prostate enlargement.
Sufferers are encouraged to cut down on alcoholic and caffeinated drinks to help ease symptoms, and surgical procedures to deal with the problem can involve removing part of the enlarged gland.
It is not the first time 55-year-old Lord Mandelson has received treatment at St Mary's Hospital.
Last October, shortly after rejoining the Cabinet, he was treated for kidney stones after complaining of abdominal pain.
