Memorial held for murdered father
09 January 2008
Garry Newlove, 47, was "kicked like a football" after confronting a gang of thugs outside his Warrington home.
The service marks 12 months since the attack that outraged the nation and which saw Mr Newlove's life support machine being switched off three days later.
The service at Christ Church in Padgate, Warrington, will feature tributes from his wife Helen Newlove, 46, her daughters Zoe, 19, Danielle, 16, Amy, 13 and Garry's best friends.
A candle lit procession will follow from the church to the spot where Mr Newlove was attacked outside the family home.
Mrs Newlove said: "It's going to be a very emotional day but it won't be sombre.
"We are celebrating his life and it is a chance for the girls to tell everyone just how much they thought of him."
She said her life had been lonely since her husband's death. Mrs Newlove said: "I still can't believe it happened, we still expect to wake up from it all.
"My daughters have flashbacks. We are like shells, on the outside we are okay. It's like having an illness with no scar, we probably seem okay on appearances.
"Garry's life was taken so needlessly - and you never get over that."
