The body was recovered from the bed of the lake in Queen Elizabeth Road, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.
The boy was reported missing after getting into difficulty in the water at 6pm on Tuesday.
A post mortem examination is due to take place on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said the boy was last seen struggling in the water by his two friends, who ran to get help.
Police divers, two ambulance crews, a helicopter and the fire service spent the night searching for the youngster and appeals for help were made through local taxi companies and the community.
A police cordon was put up around the area while the search was carried out.
Paul Baker, West Midlands Ambulance Service incident officer, said: "Ambulance crews were at the scene throughout the night, assisting with the search of the lake for the missing youngster.
"Crews have stayed at the scene long after their duty finished to support the rescue teams.
"An emergency care practitioner also checked the condition of the other youngster involved, but he did not need hospital attention."
