Missing Briton found dead in river

A British woman who went missing at the Iguazu waterfalls on Friday has been found dead.

The woman, named by police as Caroline Francesca Bayley, 29, from Bristol, was found on Sunday by police after being reported missing two days earlier.

The Argentinian naval police said it was too early to establish the cause of death and that Ms Bayley was travelling alone.

The officer confirmed media reports that Ms Bayley had been last seen on a tourist platform at the falls - a complex of waterfalls on the Argentinian-Brazilian border that is a major tourist attraction.

"The woman was walking on a walkway at the Devil's Throat (at the waterfalls) on the 11th of the month (April) when she went missing," police said.

Earlier reports said that Ms Bayley's shoes had been found on the viewing platform, prompting the search after park rangers had alerted the naval police.

Her body had been found 120 yards down the river from the platform.

The Devil's Throat is the largest of 275 waterfalls at the site.
