Robert Williams, 49, was arrested in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl last month.
Humberside Police are currently searching for Williams and 15-year-old Laura Stainforth.
The teenager, from Cleethorpes, north-east Lincolnshire, went missing last Wednesday and detectives believe she went off with Williams after arranging to meet him through a website.
Laura was last seen by her parents when she left home to go to the shops at about 3.30pm on Wednesday.
She was reported missing by her family at 9.23pm that night. The teenager and Williams were captured on CCTV footage at Grimsby train station on Wednesday evening.
Detectives believe they took a train to Doncaster, South Yorkshire, before travelling to London, and on to Dover. Laura was then spotted in Dover the following day. Williams, who is known to use the alias Dave Ingram, has connections throughout the north of England and Scotland.
The teenager's parents Debra and Robert Stainforth pleaded with Laura to contact them in a statement issued by Humberside Police.
Durham Police, who are investigating the rape allegation, said: "A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape in Darlington on December 6 last year. He is on bail pending further inquiries."
Laura is described as white, of average build, with dark brown shoulder-length hair in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a fawn and cream coloured zip-up jacket with light blue jeans and black trainers.
