MoD to name blast death soldiers

Two British soldiers killed in an explosion in Afghanistan are expected to be named by the Ministry of Defence.

The soldiers, both men, were killed on Saturday.

One was from the Light Dragoons, the other from the Parachute Regiment.

They died while on operations in Musa Qala in Helmand province. The servicemen's families have been informed.

Task Force Helmand spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson said: "We feel a numbness at the loss of these brave and noble soldiers who laid down their lives for their country and the people of Afghanistan.

"We grieve as the family, loved ones and colleagues grieve. They will always be in our thoughts and prayers and we offer our heartfelt condolences at this very sad time."

The MoD said the two men had been serving with the Brigade Reconnaissance Force.

The deaths take the number of British service personnel who have died in Afghanistan since the start of operations in October 2001 to 165.

ISAF spokesman Captain Mark Durkin said: "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of these courageous service members. ISAF is mourning the loss of two respected colleagues.

"We pay tribute to the sacrifice of these brave warriors, who have given all while helping to provide a brighter future for the Afghan people."
