MP quizzed in wife assault probe
20 January 2007
Andrew Pelling, 48, the MP for Croydon Central, was held by police on Tuesday after they received a complaint, thought to be from his wife Lucy, who is in her 20s.
He was taken to a south London police station but later released on bail until a date in October.
Mr Pelling, who is also a member of the London Assembly, married Lucy last year after splitting with his former wife Sanae.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We arrested a man in his 40s on September 18 at an address in south London in connection with allegations of assault.
"He was taken to a south London police station and was later bailed to a date in October. The alleged victim is a female in her 20s."
A Conservative Party spokesman said: "This is a police matter and it would not be right for us to comment at this stage."
