Murder 'destroyed' mother's life

The mother of murdered teenager Adam Regis has told how the death of her devoted son destroyed her life, in a televised appeal to catch his killers.

Adam, the nephew of Olympic sprinter John Regis, was found fatally wounded near West Ham United's football ground in Upton Park, east London, on March 17.

A post-mortem examination found Adam died of a single stab wound to the chest.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Horne is to appear on the BBC's Crimewatch programme on Monday night to appeal for information about the case.

Kristina Caesar told the programme that her son would have helped anyone, and was always there for her. She said of his death: "It destroyed my life. My house is so quiet. It's so empty, it's so empty without him. He would do anything for anyone. He was always there to help me.

"And he was always the first kid in the school. He used to love going to school. A lot of the teachers were saying that when they got to school Adam was always the first kid there. I remember some mornings I used to say to him 'Adam, why don't you have some breakfast first?' and he'd say 'Oh, mama, I'll grab something in the canteen."

His girlfriend, Rachel Harman, 16, told the programme: "He was always there when I needed him. He had a lovely smile, that's one thing that I remember, and a great personality, and he was always there to cheer you up."

Mr Horne said: "Adam was a well-loved and respected son, brother, friend and student. He always looked out for his family and friends and would never have harmed anyone."

The moments leading up to Adam's death will be shown in a reconstruction during the programme. Adam was attacked as he walked home in Plaistow, east London, after a night at the cinema. He was found at the junction of Boundary Road and Kingsland Road at about 9.30pm and later died at Newham General Hospital. His girlfriend has told how she was chatting to him on her mobile phone when she heard him break into a run before the line went dead.

Earlier that day, Rachel, Adam and friends went to the cinema in Beckton to watch the hip-hop film Stomp The Yard. Four men arrested in connection with his death are currently on bail.
