Officers cordoned off the area after the body was found in a home in Kiln Lane, Brambridge, near Winchester, Hants, at 5.45pm on Friday.
The BBC says there are unconfirmed reports the woman had been stabbed to death in her home.
More than 30 officers have so far been involved in the investigation and scenes of crime officers were at the location overnight.
Further searches of the property will be conducted by specialist officers.
Detective Superintendent Shirley Dinnell of Hampshire Police said: "This kind of crime is very rare in Hampshire and even more unusual in a rural area such as this.
"We need to find who was responsible for the murder as soon as possible."
A post-mortem examination will be conducted over the weekend.
Witnesses are asked to contact Hampshire Police on 08450 454 545 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
