Officers were called to Eastney Road, in Portsmouth, where they found the injured man.

He was taken to the city's Queen Alexandra Hospital but died later.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: "Detectives are investigating the circumstances which led to the man's death and are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Eastney Road near to the junction with Methuen Road who may have seen or heard anything suspicious last night."

A post-mortem examination is due to take place.
