Murder probe after street stabbing

Police have launched a murder inquiry after an 18-year-old boy was believed to have been stabbed in the street.

Joe Dinsdale died after being wounded in the stomach on Bilton Grove in east Hull on Monday night.

A 21-year-old man is being questioned on suspicion of murder by Humberside Police. A 17-year-old suspect arrested soon after the murder had been released without charge.

The victim was discovered by paramedics at around 10.50pm and taken to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he later died.

Police were combing front gardens along the street as local residents spoke of their shock at the death.

Sam Newman, who lives in Bilton Grove and is a friend of Joe's parents, said: "I came out and I saw him lying on the pavement. About 10 minutes later the ambulance arrived. I heard his mum crying and screaming. There were a lot of neighbours outside but we couldn't get near the crime scene. Someone had put a cover over him but he was losing a lot of blood."

The murder scene is close to a row of shops including a hairdresser and general store, which neighbours said was a magnet for gangs of youngsters.

Ms Newman added: "There's always groups of kids hanging around the shops, probably having a bit to drink."

Another local resident, a teenage girl who did not wish to be named, said Joe had never been involved with gangs.

A Humberside Police spokesman said the post-mortem is due to be carried out to establish the exact cause of death.
