Murder probe after two bodies found

10 January 2008
The victims were found around 4.30pm on Saturday at an upstairs flat in Croydon Road in Newcastle upon Tyne's West End.
Northumbria Police said enquiries were at an early stage and the ages and sexes of the bodies were not released.
A police spokesman said: "Scenes of crime officers, pathologists and other specialists are working to establish the circumstances and the identities of the deceased. Officers will be speaking to local residents."
Extra police patrols were on duty last night to reassure residents in the West End, and officers will speak to community leaders.
A silver hatchback parked close to the crime scene was loaded on to a covered police lorry as forensic scientists dressed in white paper suits looked on.
Police officers stood in the teeming rain to guard the cordoned off terraced street to stop onlookers from getting close to the flat where the bodies were found.
Croydon Road is in the heart of an area popular with students and Asian families.
The crime scene is at the top of Croydon Road less than 200 yards from a large Victorian primary school building. The area is a few minutes' walk from Newcastle United's home ground where the team won a pre-season friendly 2-1 against Valencia yesterday.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Paterson will lead the murder investigation and he appealed for anyone with information to ring 03456 043 043.
