Murder probe begins into shooting

A man died hours after being shot in broad daylight, police said.

Officers were called to Benskins Lane, Noak Hill, near Romford, Essex, and the man was treated at the scene for gunshot wounds.

The 39-year-old was taken to Queen's Hospital, Romford, where he died.

Police say they know the identity of the man and next of kin have been told. Formal identification will happen after a post-mortem examination.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw two white men loitering near a white Vauxhall Astra van near the scene of the murder.

Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating the murder. An incident room has been opened at Barking under Det Chief Insp Stephen Maher.

Police said no arrests had been made and inquiries continue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8345 4142 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
