Newsreader Kaplinsky pregnant

Newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky is three months pregnant, a spokesman for television channel Five has said.

The news comes just weeks after the 35-year-old started work at the station following a high-profile move from the BBC.

She married investment banker Justin Bower in August 2005.

A spokesman for Five said: "Natasha has been a great hit with our viewers and everyone is delighted by the news."

Kaplinsky opted to front Five's news coverage in a deal reported to be worth £1 million a year.

Her first broadcast on February 18 pulled in 957,000 viewers, a 43% increase on the average and a 7.5% audience share.

The move to Five marked the latest more in a career that has seen Kaplinsky make an almost complete tour of the British news networks.

Since first presenting the early morning news bulletins at ITV Meridian in 1997, she has worked for ITV London, Sky News and BBC Breakfast before moving to the national broadcaster's Six O'Clock News.
