No news on Woolmer death - widow

The widow of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer said she has heard "nothing new" from the Jamaican Police about his death.

According to reports, detectives are set to make a dramatic U-turn next week and announce the 58-year-old was not murdered, but died from natural causes.

Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room on March 18, the day after Pakistan crashed out of the Cricket World Cup, and was pronounced dead in hospital.

Within days the Jamaican police announced the former England player had been been murdered, following a post-mortem examination which showed he was strangled.

But more than two months on, doubts have been cast on the validity of the investigation, as the Jamaican authorities appear to have made no headway in discovering exactly how Woolmer died.

The Daily Mail reported that investigators now believe Woolmer died of heart failure brought on by chronic ill-health.

The conclusion has been reached following a review of all the evidence led by Scotland Yard, the newspaper said.

But speaking from her South African home, Gill Woolmer said: "I haven't heard anything new from the police and until I do I have nothing to say."

The Metropolitan Police sent three detectives and a scenes of crime officer to Jamaica in April to help with the inquiry following a formal request from the island's authorities.

Karl Angell, of the Jamaican Constabulary, said they had not received any official report from the Metropolitan Police, and there were no plans for any announcements. Investigations were continuing, he said.
