NYSE to create 400 N Ireland jobs

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has announced a major investment creating 400 jobs in Northern Ireland.

The Wall Street financial giant unveiled plans to set up an outpost in Belfast.

The groundbreaking development, which comes 18 months after the Stock Exchange bought a Belfast software firm, will see it create a hi-tech service centre in the city.

New York Stock Exchange chief executive Duncan Niederauer announced his plans in Stormont Castle alongside Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

The US business leader said the skills base of the region's workforce, plus the personal relationship struck up with Stormont leaders, proved crucial in clinching the deal.

Mr Robinson said: "It is the skills of local people that have been the deciding factor here."

It was revealed that the jobs will be highly technical posts, which will be based in Belfast Adelaide Exchange Building in the city centre and rolled out over the next two years.
