One dead, three hurt in robbery

One man was killed and three others were injured in a robbery at a recruitment agency for truck drivers.

The incident happened at the offices on an industrial estate on New Road at New Inn, Pontypool, South Wales, Gwent Police said.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said the incident happened inside Unit 2 on the South Pontypool Industrial Park and Torfaen Business Centre, offices for the Driverline 247 recruitment agency.

She said: "Gwent Police attended the location and found one male fatally injured, one male seriously injured and two other males with injuries.

"Gwent Police are dealing with the situation and inquiries are being made to locate the offender, who made off from the scene."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Apparently it was a robbery which ended up with the building set alight.

"One middle-aged male died at the scene. One other male has been conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, with serious injuries. Two other males suffered from smoke inhalation and have also gone to the hospital."

New Inn councillor Graham Smith said he was shocked to hear about the incident.

He said: "New Inn is a quiet residential area which is mainly pretty peaceful. New Road runs between New Inn and Griffithstown, which is on the other side of the valley, and runs past a place called the Polo Grounds Industrial Estate.

"It's maybe a couple of hundred yards away from any houses."
