The pair, aged 45 and 31, were freed on police bail on Friday night pending further inquiries.

Penelope Jane Wallhead, nee Howdle, was found dead at a property in Kettering, Northamptonshire, last Sunday.

Her death remained unexplained after initial police inquiries and a post-mortem examination failed to establish a cause, said Northamptonshire Police.

Further tests are being carried out on her body but her death is now being treated as murder and a major investigation has been launched.

A police spokeswoman said: "There's been a good response from the local community to our appeals."

The victim lived in Highfield Road, Kettering, but her body was discovered at another address in the same street, police said.
