Pair quizzed over baby snatch bid

A man and a woman are being questioned over the attempted abduction of a baby from a pram.

Victoria Sawyer, 30, was pushing her four-month-old daughter Jazmine in Leigh, near Wigan, when a couple attempted to snatch the child.

Greater Manchester Police said a 31-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were detained in Skelmersdale, Lancs on suspicion of attempted abduction.

The woman attacker shouted "get the baby, get the baby" as they pounced on Mrs Sawyer on August 12.

The care worker fought off the woman and the couple ran away after they were unable to release Jazmine, who was strapped into the pram.

Mrs Sawyer, who lives in Leigh, was walking across a pelican crossing near the junction of Hulme Road and Wigan Road when the couple struck.

Both mother and child were unhurt in the ordeal.
