The 24-year-old victim, believed to be Danish, was left fighting for life after being attacked with sulphuric acid and stabbed twice in the back in Marchant Road, Leytonstone, east London, on July 2.

Police denied reports that officers have warned a married Muslim woman - who was allegedly having a relationship with the victim - that her life was now at risk.

The two men, who come from east London but cannot be named for legal reasons, were remanded in custody after appearing at Waltham Forest Magistrates' Court.

They will appear at the Old Bailey on September 30.

The victim, who managed to escape and raise the alarm, remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The victim was left fighting for life after suffering 90% burns in the attack last month.

He was reportedly blinded, had his tongue destroyed, and was hit with bricks.
